Turn a match stat line into an honest rating out of 10. Every soccer position — goalkeeper, centre-back, full-back, defensive mid, central mid, attacking mid, winger, striker — has its own scoring model, because ten tackles means something different for a full-back than for a striker.
Enter the numbers from the game and MatchGrade shows exactly which stats pushed the rating up or down, so the score is never a black box.

Open the calculatorEvery rating starts at 6.0, the same neutral baseline used by professional match-rating services — a did-their-job performance, nothing special either way. From there, the score adjusts based on how the entered stats compare to what's typical for the selected position, scaled to a 90-minute equivalent so short appearances aren't unfairly judged.
Context matters too. Goals conceded pull a defender's or goalkeeper's rating down more than a striker's. A red card is a heavy penalty regardless of position. A clean sheet is rewarded for defensive roles. Winning the match adds a small bonus; losing subtracts one — small, because the individual stat line should carry most of the weight.
| Position | Primary stats |
|---|---|
| Goalkeeper | Saves, shots faced, clean sheets, penalties saved, crosses claimed |
| Centre-back | Tackles, interceptions, clearances, aerial duels, pass accuracy |
| Full-back | Tackles, interceptions, key passes / crosses, duels won, pass accuracy |
| Defensive mid | Tackles, interceptions, pass accuracy, passes completed |
| Central mid | Pass accuracy, key passes, goals, assists, dribbles |
| Attacking mid | Key passes, dribbles, goals, assists, shots on target |
| Winger | Dribbles, key passes / crosses, goals, assists, touches in the box |
| Striker | Goals, assists, shots on target, touches in the box, shot conversion |
A striker plays the full 90 minutes, scores two goals, records one assist, and takes four shots with three on target. Starting from 6.0, the two goals add roughly 2.1 points using diminishing returns per goal, the assist adds around 0.9, and the shot accuracy adds a small bonus for conversion — landing the final rating around 8.6 to 9.0, in the "excellent" tier. A defender with three tackles, two interceptions, and a clean sheet in a 1-0 win would land closer to 7.2 to 7.6 — solidly "very good" without the ceiling a goal-scoring game gives an attacker.
MatchGrade starts every player at a 6.0 baseline, representing an anonymous, did-their-job performance. The score then moves up or down based on stats compared to what is typical for that position, plus context like goals conceded, cards, and result.
It depends on position. Goalkeepers need saves and shots faced. Defenders need tackles, interceptions, and clearances. Midfielders need pass accuracy and key passes. Forwards need goals, assists, and shots on target.
Yes. Stats are scaled to a 90-minute equivalent so a player coming on as a substitute isn't unfairly judged for having fewer total actions. Very short cameos are pulled gently back toward the neutral 6.0 baseline.
Yes. Goalkeepers use a save-ratio model (saves divided by shots faced) plus clean sheets, crosses claimed, and penalty saves, instead of the outfield stats used for other positions.
